Again this year, our Chapter was proud to partner with the Friends of Saratoga Battlefield,
the Saratoga Chapter of the NSDAR, members of the C.A.R. Schuyler Society, the League of
Women Voters of Saratoga, the US Citizenship and Immigrations Services, the Saratoga National
Historical Park staff and volunteers in sponsoring this significant event.
It was a fantastic summer morning at the Park as 21 individuals from 13
different countries took the Oath of Allegiance to become citizens of the United States. Taking
that step is significant for anyone but being able to do it on July 4th at such a historically
significant site makes it even that much more special. More than one of the new citizens said
that they specifically chose this day and location even though other options were available to them.
The new SNHP Superintendent Amy Bracewell served as the emcee for the event this year.
She is a former Ranger at Mount Rushmore where they also hold a citizenship ceremony on
July 4th. She was excited about being able to plan and participate in the Saratoga event.
Assemblywoman Carrie Woerner brought an encouraging word to all and Heather Mabee,
Regent of the Saratoga Chapter DAR, delivered the salutation. Elizabeth Oxaal, President
of the Schuyler Society C.A.R, led everyone in reciting the American's Creed.
Gwynne Dinolfo, of the United Customs and Immigration Services, led the citizens-to-be
in the Oath of Allegiance and handed each person their certificate.
As she does each year, Danielle McMullen delivered outstanding acapella renditions of
both the Star Spangled Banner and God Bless America during the course of the ceremony.
She always receives well deserved praise for her talents.
In what has become the traditional ending for the ceremony, Park Ranger Joe Craig, in
period costume, has everyone participate in the 13 Toasts to the Declaration of Independence.
Each toast is followed by a traditional "huzzah!"
I would encourage everyone to come and support our Chapter, the Park and especially the
new Americans we greet each each year.
