The 2016 Turning Point Parade, commemorating the American Victory at the Battle of Saratoga
on October 17, 1777 during the American Revolutionary War, was the the twenty-second annual
presentation for the Village of Schuylerville, NY.
The original idea of the parade was to serve as a public reminder of the importance of this
area in the history of our country; in particular, the defeat of the British armies in 1777
and their subsequent surrender by General Burgoyne. These events have of course been deemed
the "turning point" of the American Revolution, vital to winning independence from Great Britain.
Our Chapter has been a participant in this parade almost since its inception. The Walloomsac
Battle Chapter also participates with us. As usual, we had good attendance from the membership.
The weather was fantastic this year with sunshine, warm (not hot) temperatures and low humidity.
A perfect day for a parade!
Along with the SAR representation, other participants in the parade include the Saratoga
Chapter DAR, Schuyler Society C.A.R. and the 2nd Continental Artillery reenacting group
that has several SAR members in their midst.
