Saratoga Battle Chapter
24th Annual Turning Point Parade
Schuylerville, NY
August 5th, 2018

Each year on the first Sunday in August the Village of Schuylerville hosts a parade to commemorate the
American victory at the Battles of Saratoga during the American Revolutionary War that
culminated in the British surrender on October 17, 1777.
The original idea of the parade was to serve as a public reminder of the importance of this area in the
history of our country; in particular, the defeat of the British armies in 1777 and their subsequent
surrender by General Burgoyne. These events have of course been deemed the &turning point& of the American
Revolution, vital to winning independence from Great Britain.
Like many days during the summer of 2018, August 5th was hot and humid. That led to not being able to catch our
traditional group photo of everyone that participated in the parade. In addition to the Saratoga Battle
Chapter SAR, the Walloomsac Battle Chapter SAR and Saratoga Chapter DAR were also participants in the parade.
The 2nd Continental Artillery Regiment led all of us down the parade route.
